MUZAFFARABAD AKJ: Health Research Advisory Board (Health RAB) an entity established by PharmEvo Pharmaceuticals has established the First Clinical Research Center in Azad Jammu and Kashmir at Abbass Institute of Medical Sciences, Muzzafar Abad. The CRC was formally inaugurated on September 9, 2017. Earlier a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed between PharmEvo/Health RAB and Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences.
Speaking at the occasion Prof. Bashirur Rehman Kanth Dean Faculty of Medical Sciences, Azad Kashmir University said that he was very much delighted to be present on this unusual and historic event in the history of AIMS when there is MoU signing and inauguration and fully active Clinical Research Centre. Any healthcare educational institute is known for three things. Services offered, quality of education and research. Unfortunately, the third element is missing in most of the institutes in Pakistan. With the inauguration of this CRC, AIMS is the first institute in the AJK region to have an active research center. The whole administration and faculty members of AIMS deserve to be commended for this accomplishment. He also thanked Health Research Advisory Board and PharmEvo who played a vital role for this noble cause.
Health RAB has signed an MOU with Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences Muzzafar Abad and established a Clinical Research Center. Photograph taken after the signing of MOU from (L to R) shows Executive Director, AIMS Dr. Syed Abid Hussain, Prof. Rizwan Abid, Dr. Saeed Awan and Dr. Masood Jawaid Director Medical Affairs at PharmEvo and Member Health RAB.
Continuing Prof. Bashirur Rehman Kanth said that there were around 600 registered pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan but only a few are involved in the promotion of research and academic work in the real sense. PharmEvo deserves a ‘Salute’ for practically promoting research culture from the very first day of its inspection. Today while listening to a very inspiring talk by Dr. Masood Jawaid, Director Medical Affairs PharmEvo and Charter member of Health RAB I see a great future ahead for this CRC and Dr. Masood Jawaid is a living example for our house officers and faculty members.
Dr. Masood Jawaid in his presentation ‘Winning the Publication Game’ discussed different steps and ways of how to publish in good quality peer reviewed medical journals. He stated that this CRC is digitally connected to ‘Clinision’ (a research division of PharmEvo at Karachi where all type of research support will be provided which include statistical analysis, plagiarism report, technical review of synopsis and articles and literature review. Regular research capacity building workshops will be organized at the Centre. Health RAB is planning ‘Research Assembly’ in March 2018 at AIMS where poster competition of research conducted at the institute with best research award is also planned. Our main aim is to promote research culture in the region in general and at AIMS in particular. He also emphasized that now it’s up to faculty here to fully utilize the services offered.
Prof. Rizwan Abid said that we have already started “Reading Group’ and ‘Working Group’ with their regular meetings. Some research projects related to thyroid diseases have already started and we welcome others to join as well. We are also reviving registries and to start with, we are working on Diabetes and Cardiovascular registry at the institute with publishing its report every year. We also intend to publish peer-reviewed medical journal from the institute as well.
Prof. Khalid Awan, HOD of Medicine at AIMS said that now Health RAB and PharmEvo have not only provided us a designated center with fully supportive research logistics but also gave us clear direction as well what to do and how to do. Now it’s up to us to fully utilize the services offered and take maximum benefit out of it. AIMS have more than 30 postgraduates besides faculty members and house officers; hopefully, we will establish a wonderful research identity in the days to come.
